About

Our mission

Building safe, accessible trails for riding, running, hiking and exploring in Grahamstown.

About

Trails built by the community, for the community.

G-Town Trails is a community-driven initiative dedicated to creating and maintaining a network of safe, accessible and enjoyable trails in and around Grahamstown (Makhanda).

Working alongside local partners such as Amarider, we share a vision of getting more people outdoors and active — providing opportunities for cycling, trail running, hiking and dog walking close to where people live, learn and work.

The project began with the restoration of existing trails around Hill 60 and continues to expand through new trail segments and curated routes, regular maintenance, vegetation clearing and clean-up efforts. Every trail is designed for non-motorised recreation and is shared respectfully by cyclists, runners, walkers and nature lovers.

Our goal is simple: a trail network that connects people with nature, with each other, and with the unique landscapes that make Grahamstown special.

Network

Six ingredients that keep the network alive.

Build new trails

Cutting and shaping new single trails through Grahamstown's greenbelts and open spaces.

Maintain existing trails

Regular work parties keep the network rideable, runnable and walkable year-round.

Remove litter & invasive vegetation

Clearing alien plants and trash so our green corridors stay healthy and welcoming.

Improve safety & signage

Trail markers, route signs and visibility upgrades that help everyone find their way.

Support youth outdoors

Working with schools and partners to get more young people active in nature.

Bring people together

Hosting community events like cross-country and trail running races that connect riders, runners and families.

Get involved.

Well-maintained trails create healthier lifestyles, stronger community connections, and safer green spaces. Support the project or join a work party.
