Ama Riders

We provide access to bikes, training, and safe trails while promoting environmental awareness, personal growth, and community service through the power of cycling

Our journey

The Ama Riders story, year by year.

How it started

How it started

The Amariders were established as a cycling initiative and have been growing ever since. They have already developed a network of over 200 km of single-track trails round Makhanda. These trails — including areas like Mountain Drive and Makana Bricks have been cleared, marked, and made accessible for riders of all skill levels. The group also engages in community service by assisting vulnerable residents. In addition, they participated in the G2C (Grahamstown to Sea) mountain bike race from Makhanda to Port Alfred and took part in the Kariega Classic.

Why we ride

More than a bike ride.

The Ama Riders is about people first — using cycling to grow skills, health and a stronger Makhanda community.

Personal growth

See your personality grow through teamwork and by being part of a positive impact on the community and the environment.

Education

Educate Makhanda's youth about cycling and their local environment.

Health

Stay healthy by cycling regularly. It's a fun and effective way to improve your fitness while exploring the outdoors.

Connected community

Creating better communication and a stronger bond in Makhanda's community by, for example, assisting vulnerable residents.
